Paper Plane Folder

Paper Plane Folder was a final year self-directed university project, continuing on from ObjectDetector, which had involved the combination of designing XR interfaces for ML vision.
To aim even higher, for this project I developed a Perceptually-enhanced Task Guidance interface, using the underlying outputs of my own custom trained ML vision model, with the aim of being able to teach a user with no priors how to do something simple - in this case, folding a paper plane.
A user, wearing the Meta Quest 3, can look at instructions appearing in their vision, view a video as a visual guidance, and on completion of the step, is be able to progress to the next one, until they have a paper plane made.
Such a simple task was chosen for this proof-of-concept since it has only 7 steps, is easy/cheap to iterate on and test at home (I made a lot of planes), and formed a very fun exhibition stall, which I displayed at the LCC 2026 Degree Show the following month in June.
