Playing the Library
January 2025
Playing the Library was an editorial project made at university about remixing imagery from the LCC library.
Allowed to choose my own 'system' to gather images by, I chose 'authors with my own name' (Enrico), which led to a rather interesting set of images.
Extending this personal approach, I was inspired by Carl Jung's Red Book, which was a subconscious tapestry of images that explored his own psyche.
I too worked on the book from cover to rear instinctively, following the prompt of the specifications in the template provided to us, and what you see as the end outcome is mostly identical to my first version. The only minor adjustments made were to refine image placement ever so slightly for better visual cohesion.
5 editions of my book exist, with one in the LCC Library on display.
Following its creation, I also used Jungian psychoanalysis to gather the meaning of my placements, and it did seem that a story emerged.
I recommend opening the image below in a new tab if you're interested in seeing what I gathered from my own subconscious!
The full list of books I took imagery from are as follows:
Cells to Civilizations (Enrico Coen)
Jean-Michel Basquiat: Works on Paper (edited by Enrico Navarra)
Fiona Tan: Geography of Time (edited by Enrico Lunghi)
Fontana (edited by Enrico Crispolti)
George Grosz: Berlin-New York (text by Enrico Crispolti)
